Recent Trends and New Development in Recreation and Leisure

1.  Promotions on having daily exercises

Featuring the theme of “Stay active: Exercise for half an hour daily” this year, “Sport for All Day” has been held for four consecutive years by The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). It is to encourage people to build up a good habit by doing at least half an hour of physical activity every day. Various fee-charging leisure facilities will be open to the public for free on the day in order to promote the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyle.

Apart from this, different free activities including exercise demonstrations, parent-child sports programmes, fitness corners and more will also be held for people of all ages to take part in and enjoy a sweating yet fun day.

2.  Lengthening of opening hours

To the white-collars, they may find it hard to join swimming or any kind of ball games as it is difficult to fit into the opening hours of recreational activities. As people now are getting more health-conscious, they tend to do exercises after a day of hard work in order to refresh their minds. Government-supported sports centres are now lengthening their opening hours so as to cater to the surge in demand.
